Wassup SKY sistaz! So, when I was 16 I created my first YouTube channel and it was actually so cool! I would do weekly vlogs of my life and sit down videos where I’d share stories of my experiences. Na guess what? I would film, edit and post using just my phone after school or on weekends.
It’s 2022 sis, and making videos is a great way to be creative, capture memories and if you’re patient enough, even make some money! So here’s my 6-step guide to becoming Kenya’s next top YouTube star!
Step 1
Pick a topic
Kuna so many topics to create content about on YouTube. Whether that is fashion, beauty, music, gaming or even what it’s like to be a teen girl, all you have to do is choose something you enjoy and something people are interested in. People will subscribe if they know what they’ll get from your channel.
Step 2:
Create a G-Mail account
Chagua a funky, easy-to-remember name that will tell people what your content is about and create your email address. When you’re done, fungua www.youtube.com on your web browser and it’s time to dive into the fun part!
Step 3:
Pics! Pics! Pics!
Your profile photo and banner are super important for YouTube cause ni the first thing people will see when they watch your stuff. Make it your own using your fave colours and images and include the name you want to be known for in your banner.
💡Quick side tip: I use Canva.com to make mine. It’s free and simple to understand. Download the app or open it on your web browser to make some cool banners!
Step 4:
Lights, Camera, Action!
Time to turn on that front camera and do your thing! Have confidence, have fun, and begin to create content that you like. When you focus on your passion, it helps you stay consistent and enjoy the journey.
💡Quick side tip: Share but stay safe. As much as you wanna be open, ni important to keep yourself safe while you do it so don’t put your full names, address or other sensitive information in your videos.
Step 5:
Fam and Friends for life!
Reach out to everyone you know and share your YouTube channel with them. Get them to subscribe, watch your videos, like and leave a comment on their favourite videos.
Step 6:
Consistency is Cool!
With anything in life, it’s important to practice as often as you can. Doing this itakusaidia to get better with every video.
When it comes to making your own videos, remember it’s personal. It should represent all the things you love, all the things that are good for you and everything that you hope to be one day.
