23rd August 2024

Welcome to SKY Advice! Kwa hii edition, tuliuliza SKY Girls to share green flags na red flags zao when it comes to friendships. Kila mtu ako na choice kuchoose what they like and what they don’t, so wacha tuone what our sistas watasema.

Celestine: 19 yrs old, 5th child of 8, currently living in Kibra and is a student at CUEA

Green Flags:

  1. Friends who have your back na wanakusupport no matter what
  2. Friends wenye wana allow you to be yourself bila kujudge juu they love you the way you are
  3. Friends who hear you out and validate your opinions. Ni muhimu kukuwa na friends who listen to you.

Red Flags:

  1. Friends who force/manipulate kufanya vitu that they know are not your thing like smoking.
  2. Friends who constantly say bad things about others. Watch out! Wanaweza ongea hivo about you too.
  3. Friends who do not respect your decisions/choices. Choice ni yetu ku make and good friends wanafaa ku-respect that.

Val: 19 yrs old, 1st born of two, currently living in Eldoret and is a student at Multimedia University

Green flags:

  1. Friends wenye wana celebrate my wins like their own! Nothing beats a friend who is genuinely happy for you.
  2. Those who can call you out. Hatuko perfect, that’s why our friends are there to help us when we go wrong.
  3. Friends who you know have got you no matter what. Being able ku-trust your friends and count on them ni everything!

Red flags:

  1. Backstabbing. We don’t do that. Kama your friend ana talk about you vibaya when hauko around, ye si real friend.
  2. Friends wenye hawako happy for you when you win. Friends should always want the best for each other and celebrate each other
  3. Friends who make fun of you. Girl, we only have room ku-uplift one another si ku-tear each other down.

Mary: 19 yrs old, only child, currently living in Dagoretti South and studying at NIT

Green flags:

  1. Friends wenye wanajua how to cheer you up when you’re down.
  2. Feeling comfortable to openly discuss issues bila judgement and pia advice zao ni solid.
  3. Having the same things ku-share in common so after hanging out with them unaskia vizuri.

Red Flags:

  1. Backstabbing and sharing your secrets bila ku uliza. You should be able to trust your friends.
  2. Friends wenye wako slow to compliment you. Unafaa ku gas your friends up when you can ndio waskie good about themselves,
  3. Those who only talk about themselves bila ku uliza about you. Friendship goes two ways.

Tunahope umepick up a few green and red flags when it comes to friendships. Tushow pale IG @SKYGIRLSKE what your green & red flags in friendships are.
