ALBUM REVIEW: “RAPTURE” by Koffee
18th September 2020Ok, by now you’ve heard “Toast”. It was the reggae anthem that carried us all through the December holidays last year and into 2020. Koffee, a young Jamaican star, is the amazing artist who blessed us with that song.
“Rapture" is her first project and it features “Toast”. We thought we knew what to expect after hearing “Toast” but with this album, she gives us a taste of what she's truly capable of and we absolutely love it.
Whether you are a reggae-lover or you are a newcomer to the sound, “Rapture” will most definitely get you up and dancing. This album perfectly captures a summer/coasto vibe that will make you want to be chilling on a beach with your friends. The jumpy and fun beats provide a great base for Koffee's vocals, which we adore. Although the album is mainly reggae, Koffee is not afraid to experiment with other genres like naija beats and hip-hop. That is evident on the closing track, "Raggamuffin", where she ditches her singing for rapping. The result is a fun and unique sound that is consistent throughout the album.
On all 5 songs, Koffee effortlessly moves between reggae and dancehall and delivers some irresistible choruses. You’ll just find yourself singing along.
It seems we aren’t the only ones who loved Rapture cause it won the Grammy for best reggae album 2020, making Koffee the youngest person and only female artist to win the award at only 19 years old.
Koffee has said in the past that she had planned to study pharmacy after high school, but when she got an opportunity to sing, she went for it! Energy!!!!!
The Rapture EP is further proof of her talents and we are so excited to see what this young lady does going forward. The way she is going, she might be the future of reggae music.
We give this album an 8/10.
Our favorite tracks are: Rapture, Toast, and Raggamuffin
Least favorite: Absolutely none.
